Bringin' the Thunder

December 19, 2011

An ongoing feature on the TBBL web site will include monthly interviews with some of our league members.  Catching up with one of our new owners Chris Longo:

TBBL: Hello and thanks for taking the time to be interviewed. How are you doing today?

Doing well. Excited for the upcoming draft. I can’t wait to get the rebuilding process started.

TBBL: Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Married? Kids? Where did you grow up, what college did you attend (if you did), and where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?

I am married with 2 kids and have spent my entire life living in central/northern New Jersey. So much has changed in the last 10 years, it would be remiss of me to even guess what the next 10 will be like. Although it would be nice to have a TBBL title on the mantle.

TBBL: You are brand new to the league so please tell us where you expect to see your team in 2012, 2013 and beyond?

The CityHawks have a long way to go. The next two to three years will be spent rebuilding with a focus on getting younger at the corners, more depth and proven talent in the outfield, and most of all, establishing a solid core of starting pitching that will serve as the foundation of our franchise for seasons to come.

TBBL: Do you have any players on the trading block currently?

Not at the moment. The majority of our veteran players are coming off down years statistically, so their values aren’t where we’d like them to be. That said, we are always willing to entertain offers.

TBBL: Shifting to the MLB now, who's your favorite team and why?

The New York Yankees. There is not a member of my family that isn’t one. I was too young to remember the teams of the late 70s, so despite the moderate success of the early to mid 80’s teams, most of my childhood memories were jaded by the teams that followed. However, since 1996, it’s pretty much been a fairy tale. I definitely can’t complain. Except for 2004... nah, I better not.

TBBL: Which baseball stadiums have you visited and which is your favorite?

Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field.

TBBL: Who is your favorite baseball player, both current and all time?

Don Mattingly. He was the face of the franchise when I really started to follow the team. As a collector, I had to have every baseball card of him I could get my hands on (and back then it wasn’t cheap). It’s a shame that back issues shortened his prime and ended his career.

TBBL: What is your favorite movie of all time?

Italian, from Jersey? Rocky all the way. Well, the first three. I watch them every time I see them on cable, which is fairly often. I can’t help it. The fourth one was ok, but as far as I am concerned the series ended there. Tommy Gunn? Really? fugggehit about it.

TBBL: What other DMB leagues are you apart of and tell us a little about your favorite league (other than the TBBL of course)

This is my first and only sim league.

TBBL: If you were TBBL commissioner for a day, what would you change and why?

I am huge fan of deep rosters. I would love to be able to keep an additional 10-15 off disk players on top of the 10 we can now.

TBBL: If you were MLB commissioner Bud Selig for a day, what would you change and why?

1) I would get rid of inter league play. It seems forced to me. If you want certain rivalries to exist then realign.
2) Having the winner of the All-Star game determine home field for the World Series is nonsense. Get rid of it.
3) Salary floors for franchises. Sharing revenue with the smaller markets is fine, but it should be invested back into the franchise, not pocketed as income.
4) New CBA... never mind, if I get started on this the interview won’t ever come to an end.
