Richmond Rockers defeat Moon Raiders; Gain 1st Championship

The Richmond Rockers, led by manager Chris Tomlinson, defeated the Moon Raiders four games to one in the first Thunder Bay Baseball League World Series.  The 2004 Rockers were built mainly on starting pitching, but mixed in a few great hitters and a top of the line closer acquired at the trade deadline to become champions.  An early season trade for Roy Halladay paid dividends throughout the postseason, as Halladay won 2 games in his 3 postseason series'.  Pedro Martinez, the Rockers 1st round selection in the 2004 Draft, went 4-1 with a 1.51 ERA during the playoffs as well.  3B Bill Mueller had a great postseason also, smacking 3 homers, driving in 16 runs in 16 games, while batting .317.  Congratulations to the 2004 Thunder Bay Champion Richmond Rockers.

Thunder Bay World Series:  David vs. Goliath?

The Richmond Rockers are coming off of an emotional seven game series with their rivals from Kentucky, the Wildcats.  Manager Chris Tomlinson reached into his bag of tricks, which included starting Scott Shields and Oscar Villarreal in the ALCS, to pull out a victory over the TBBL's best regular season team.  We all know, regular season wins mean very little in October.  Pedro Martinez, the Rockers ACE and ALCS MVP (1-0 3 GS 3.18 ERA) will get the ball in the series opener against the Moon Raiders. The Rockers held the Kentucky batters in check, allowing a team batting average of .258, only giving up 7 HR in 7 games.  The Rockers were 23-15 in one run games during the season, but have improved since acquiring John Smoltz at the trade deadline.  The Moon Raiders made short work of the Chemung Crawdads in the NLCS, winning easily in five games.  Raiders ACE and unanimous NL Cy Young Award Winner, Javier Vasquez (1-1 6.75 LCS ERA) will start game one of the series.
