Beartooth defeats Stone Mountain in 5.

Andrew McCutchen hit .500 with an OBP of .565, scored 7 runs, hit 2 homers, 3 doubles and drove in 6 from the leadoff spot. Rickie Weeks and Jay Bruce contributed offensively, both hitting .278 with a homerun a piece. ARod hit .200, but drove in 5 runs and hit one homer. After being "called out" by Mike Bush for his lack of performance in big games, ARod hit his lone homer in his next plate appearance. McCutchen was too much to handle for the Confederates pitching staff and he carried Beartooth offensively to the 4-1 series victory. Josh Hamilton tried to keep the Confederates moving forward as he hit .474 with 2 homers and 5 RBIs, but timely hits from other players with runners in scoring position just did not come to pass.

Cliff Lee outdueled Adam Wainwright two times, gaining the vicotry in both games. Johnny Cueto and Tommy Hanson won the other two games for Beartooth. Mike Adams was lights out, recording 2 saves. Outside of Game 4, the Beartooth pitching staff rolled through the Confederates lineup with hardly a hiccup. They finished with a team ERA of 2.80 and a WHIP of 1.27. Contrasted by a Stone Mountain pitching staff that posted a 5.02 ERA and a WHIP of 1.51, one has to gaze no further to determine why this series ended quickly.

Recipe for Beartooth victory: Quality pitching and an en fuego Andrew McCutchen.
