The Los Angeles Halos dispatched of the upstart Colorado Gladiators in 4 games during LDS play and now will battle Kentucky in what on paper has the best two AL teams in the TBBL History squaring off.  Both teams are well rested and LA holds the season series advantage,  Will the Yankee led Halos show up for this tough League Championship Series?

The Kentucky Wildcats took knocked off the West Division winning Grizzlies in the LDS round and now set their sights on the big boys of the American League.  The Halos dominated the season series winning 9 of 12 games and the Cats will need all the breaks to take out Greg and the Halos.
Prediction:  Los Angeles in 7 games (correct but in 4 games)

I see this series going right down to the wire with Los Angeles winning it on a Curtis Granderson walk off Home Run in the 11th inning of Game 7.  Craig Kimbrel gives up the HR after throwing 9 scoreless innings in the series.  Now if only the Grandy Man can hit in real life.

American League Championship Series

Kentucky Wild Cats (103-59) vs. Los Angeles Halos (116-46)

Game #1 October 14, 2012 at Dodger Stadium.

Roy Halladay (21-8) vs. CC Sabathia (19-8)

JJ Hardy provided all the offense as he hit a solo homer in the 4th and then a 2 run shot in the 6th as the Halos take the opener 3-0. Sabathia threw 6.2 scoreless allowing 4 hits with 6 k’s and the bully which has been strong all season closed it out with 2.1 innings of shutout ball. Kentucky had bases loaded in the 3rd and the 7th unfortunately both times with 2 outs and could not come up with the big hit.

Game #2 October 15, 2012 at Dodger Stadium.

Aaron Harang (11-2) vs. Cory Luebke (11-2)

Very tight up and a bit strange as the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning despite Harang lasting only 2.1 innings. Manager Rocky Hall had him on a VERY short leash pulling him in the 3rd after allowing two singles with 1 out. The move paid off as Ramos ended the threat by inducing Granderson to hit into a double play. The Wildcats put the 1st run on the board on the 6th but came away disappointed that they didn’t plate more and it certainly cost them. After a Ruiz single and a Downs double, Hafner was intentionally walked to load up the bases with one out. S. Downs came on and the pinch hitter Cozart hit a sac fly to left but Betancourt came in to put out the fire. The Halos tied it up in the 7th on a Gardner sac fly and it remained that way until the bottom of the 9th. After 1 out, Ciriaco costly error at 3B allowed Youklis to get to 2nd base where Arredondo then balked him to 3rd. He then semi-intentionally walked Gardner and got Izturis to pop out for the 2nd out and it looked like he might escape the inning. Preferring to face the righty, Molina, Granderson was intentionally walked but Yadier who was red hot last series lines a single to center for the walk off win.

Game #3 October 17, 2012 at Great American Ball Park

Brandon Morrow (16-9) vs. Josh Beckett (15-11)

In a must win situation, the Wildcats turn to the LDS MVP, Josh Beckett, but things unraveled in the 4th inning for him. After Granderson’s solo HR in the top of the 1st, the Wildcats scored 2 on a Votto RBI ground out and a Heisey sac fly to take a 2-1 lead into the 4th. The Halos batted around scoring 7 runs with the biggest blow being Granderson 2nd homer of the game, this time a 2 out 3 run shot. The Halos tacked on a couple more runs for a 10-2 win. Morrow went the distance for the win.

Game #4 October 18, 2012 at Great American Ball Park

Jake Peavy (14-2) vs. Roy Halladay (0-1)

Halladay on short rest, just isn’t himself as he goes 5.1 innings allowing 8 hits and 5 runs, but it was his defense that really let him down. Mark Reynolds had 2 errors out of the teams 3 errors which allowed 4 unearned runs. The Halos got another outstanding start as Peavy went 6.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run with 9 Ks and strong work from the bully 2.2 innings 1 hit, 0 runs as they win easily 8-1.

The series MVP goes to JJ Hardy who was hot early with key hits ending up hitting .412 with 2 HRs, 5 runs, 4 RBI and a 1.327 OPS.

Congrats to Rocky on a great season as he won 100+ games and knocked Houston and Fresno off to get to this series. He was a pleasure to play and I certainly understand that it was a difficult series for him but definitely respect that he kept a great attitude. The Halos after losing 4 straight LDS, the have now won 8 straight playoff games to reach the World Series for the 2nd time in franchise history. They are the 1st team to make the World Series in both leagues.
