2004 All-Star Game

Rockers, Norsemen and Wildcats dominate AL Voting!

The 2004 American League All Star team looks to be a great team on paper.  Mix in some veterans and some young up and coming players, and the AL has a great shot at taking this years mid summer classic.  At 1B, Derek Lee of the Asgard Norsemen took home 5 of 6 first place votes.  Lee is batting .319 with 27 HR and 71 RBI, a serious Triple Crown contender.  Lee will be joined by fellow Norsemen Alex Rodriquez (.267-19-54), who just got the nod over the Rockers Jose Valentin.  Rounding out the infield will be Brett Boone (.340-27-78) of the Florida Devils and Bill Mueller (.314-9-38) and Javy Lopez (.322-21-70) of the Richmond Rockers.  Frank Thomas (.272-19-50) of the Grayslake Cubs will serve as the DH.  Surprisingly, the only unanimous selections was Javy Lopez, who received all 6 first place votes.

The outfield is loaded!  Barry Bonds (.321-22-52), the Wildcats stud LFer will be joined by Jim Edmonds (.292-28-56) and Trot Nixon (.335-19-43) of the Rockers, forming an OF with 71 HR's between them.

A tight race between two Kentucky Wildcats Aces came down to the wire for the starting pitcher job.  Curt Schilling (8-3, 3.02 ERA) will start as he beat out Tim Wakefield (11-4, 3.59 ERA) in the closest voting battle of the AL.  John Smoltz (0-2 16 Saves, 0.96 ERA) will be the closer if the AL has the lead late in the game.

Note:  Only 6 teams participated in the voting.  Some teams did not select 3 players at each position as well.
